Job Summary

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the IT Manager manages the Information Technology requirements of Sporting Life. Ensures that the systems and business processes offer an infrastructure that will allow all company business units to operate at optimal levels. Provides strategic IT direction, to allow the company to grow and achieves its goals. Contributes to achieving our mission statement: To be a retailer with Passion, Knowledge, Integrity committed to a relentless desire to improve our performance in creating the highest quality shopping experience for all Customers & Staff

Essential Functions


• Plans, organizes, directs, and controls all aspects relating to the computer systems and related third party relationships with potential and current systems vendors
• Initiates, develops and maintains relationships within the technology team including vendors, third party and Sporting Life staff.
• Provides strategic direction by anticipating and planning for the future
• Holds full accountability to ensure all standards of systems management are followed to the best service levels possible
• Fosters communication with all parties involved in the business information systems and day to day operations of the computer systems, to ensure effective and efficient systems and processes are maintained
• Ensures third party vendors have the expertise to provide the most effective methods of meeting the technical expectations in all technology related projects
• Implementation and management of all IT security systems protocols
• Analyses, troubleshoots, accounts for, reports on, and resolves either internally or externally any technical issue that hinders any member of the business unit
• Work with Vendors to drive resolution, recovery of incidents
• Negotiates terms of supplier compliance including Service Level Agreements
• Promotes open communication and teamwork
• Manage the departments financial goals to achieve and surpass the company objectives
• Promotes the Sporting Life ‘House Philosophy’
• Promotes IT Policy adherence and updates the policy as required
• Performs other related assignments and duties as required

Skill Requirements

• 3-5 years of technology management experience and proven leadership skills
• Basic knowledge of general accounting principles and practices
• Hands on familiarity with current IT systems, including networks, servers, data security systems, VOIP telephony and POS systems
• Relevant experience in supporting multiple platforms including VMware, SAN Storage, Windows Server (2003, 2008, 2012), VPN/WAN/LAN infrastructures and MS Windows workstation administration
• iSeries (AS400) exposure, SQL/Query knowledge, Linux exposure/awareness (Red Hat, CentOS)
• Excellent organizational skills and multi-tasking skills with the ability to prioritize workload
• Strong problem solving skills, with the ability to trouble-shoot
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with tact and diplomacy
